Cool homemade double bass hard case?

hi there, sorry if Ive posted in the wrong forum.

having just bought myself my first db, I'm a little strapped for cash, and am thinking of making my own hard case for storing my double bass around the house.
I'm thinking of going with a hard case rather than a stand because its going to be stored im my bedroom, which is very cramped with all the other musical instruments occupying it and and would undoubtedly get scratched to hell with all the moving amps/guitars in and out of the room.

I was just wondering if anyone here had had a go at this and could share some experience. I've got a shed-full of carpentry tools at my disposal, and a fairly patient hand with woodwork, so with a little planning i could make something nice. any comments would be greatly appreciated

I would suggest a rack of some sort. Not a case.

Like this:

You could easily modify it for one instrument or two...

If money's an object, you can go the way I did. DIY:

Building/buying a luthier-style bass rack

not the most bulletproof thing in the world but if you're not throwing things around, you should be ok.

Thanks guys, those are some nice stands, i like the stand/stool idea,

but i think if you could see the dimensions of the room I'm talking about(about 6ftx6ft minus table and bed), you would see the need for armor plating on the bass i might make me one of those stool/stands for the garden though for practicing in in the evenings....

I just purchased the two bass model of the Sherrard DB rack. You can see a pic of the 4 bass model here:

I actually think that the Wenger racks are somewhat nicer but they only come in 3 and 4 bass models - the Sherrard has a 2 bass rack as well (prices for both brands are about the same). I have no tools, no space to build anything, and no carpentry skills but think that anyone so possessed could build a similar rack themselves.

In terms of a "case", if you are just talking storage here, check out a wardrobe from Ikea. You may have to tweak it a bit but it will save you time. Otherwise, a few sheets of plywood and some framing and hardware should do the trick.

Damn! That's a funny webpage. Nicely layed out, but those pictures look like they came out of a 1940's band instrument catalog. Maybe they did!

+1 on going to Ikea or building some kind of wardrobe.
