Question How do you travel with an upright?

Hi everyone,

I need to travel on a plane with my bass and was just wondering how you all normally do it. I currently have just a soft case but I'm assuming I need a hard case to check it in (for fear of killing the bridge). Any thoughts/experiences?

thanks so much!

Search the forum, there was some threads within the past 6 months or so. In the past, I just bought an extra seat and traveled during off peak hours (late at night).

my bass teacher said he bought a ticket for his bass and it rode in the seat next to him.....he said going through security was a bitch.

Thanks, guys. I've heard pretty much the same from others, and apparently traveling with a hard case as someone barely over 5'2" is not fun. I'm just going to rent a bass down in DC.

Thanks for your help!
