How much bag can a bass bear...?

Hi all,

I've finally managed to get a bass (yippee!); will post details shortly, but in brief it's a Korean Bogey, solid top & back (gamba shape). I'm soooooo excited...! (So is my teacher, he's itching for the extra income!)

In the meantime, however, I have a question about bass bags: I have a Gollihur bag (green one) that my bass fits into, although with a degree of looseness (unlike the bass' actual bag which is a better fit but not as well made/padded). It's not exactly rolling around inside, but it's not snug & can rotate a little; I'd say you could grab a fistful of slack & still have the bass move a bit. It's loose around the shoulders & also an inch or too too tall, although the lower bouts seem ok.

So my question is: when is a bass bag too big? If it's not snug/can move around, could this cause problems?

I'll be posting photos of both bass & bag shortly to illustrate (just way too busy last night to do it), but any thought would be muchos-appreciated in the meantime...

Thanks!

Yeah, as long as the bass doesn't fall out after you zip up the bag.
