I have both hybrid and laminated versions of the NS LaScala bass. As good as the laminated bass is, it can't touch the hybrid for tone. I don't know why that is, but it simply is...same strings, same string height, same player, doesn't matter. There's just a slight "hollowness" that the laminated bass has that the hybrid doesn't have (soundclips of both can be found
Here ). Much as I love the laminate bass, I don't think I've quite forgiven it yet for not being the hybrid.
