estimates

estimates based on my bathroom scale:

Christopher 401F 7/8 = 25 lbs

Pfretzschner = 19 lbs

BUT the Bobelock bag for my Christopher is another 10 lbs where the Pfretaschner's Mooradian is only 6 lbs.

The Chris actually feels heavier, though. By comparison, the Pfretaschner seems like a feather...

Older bass has gut strings and newer bass has Velvets. Both have original tuning gears installed. Both basses have had the endpin changed to a modern hollow tube assembly.

I'd like to know how these compare (in weight) to a New Standard Cleveland.

Thanks,
I played a hybrid Cleveland today and it is right in there around that range. Felt very light compared to my 31 lb Epiphone.

Thanks for that update. I played a New Standard in Nashville a couple of years back and the American Standard I had with me was about 5-6 floors up in the room at the time, so I couldn't compare them.

At one time, I had thought about selling both my American Standards and buying a set of New Standards. It's not easy for me to switch between the 41.5" scale of the New Standard and the 43" scale of the American Standard. Well, I can go to the shorter scale much easier than it is to switch back to the longer scale.

Right now, the AStandards seem to be scarce as hen's teeth in the marketplace. So, I think I'll hang onto mine.

I was hoping to get up to Columbus, OH, later in the month and me and the Uncle Toad were going to do a comparison, but I'm not going to be able to make that trip. I hate that. I was wanting to see that baby and give my condolences to Uncle Toad's wife.

The condolences would be due to Uncle Toad, not the baby.

PfretZschner

Of course, you guys are right. I have no idea how I was able to misspell it TWICE.

back to the thread, I'm happy to have a lighter bass for daily gigs. The Pfretzschner still doesn't have the booming sound of the 7/8 Chris, but it's got a much more sophisticated timbre and overall is much louder pizz.

Another plywood bass: unknown 3/4 flatback, probably eastern Europe, has one of those Antonius Stradivarius yada yada labels. Has been upgraded with a 5/8" diameter endpin, ebony tailpiece, Pirastro Jazzers, has either a dyed rosewood FB or a (dyed) streaky ebony (I haven't yet dared poke at the underside or some other inconspicuous spot to check).
22 pounds.
