| In general, if your humidifier has a humidistat (think thermostat, but for humidity), it should be able to cycle on/off to maintain the preset humidity level.
You will have to experiment to see if your humidifier does this, and what humidity level is maintained with the low, med, high settings.
If the humidifier is oversized, it will increase the humidity in the room faster than an appropriate sized machine. Along with the rapid change in humidity, it will tend to cycle more frequently, which can cause earlier wear out.
