My New Standard LaScala is truly a wonderful bass. When I visited about a month ago, Arnold was very helpful and patient with me. Imagine he took time out for me while working on Gary Peacock's bass! Anyway, the carved LaScala was THE bass for me as soon as I played it. Now I just finished playing for about an hour and could not be happier. Now, back to the bass. Thanks Arnold and Michael.

Actually . . . I'm pretty sure that's the bass I played at Arnold's when I was there in late October. It was sweet. If I recall correctly, it was strung with Evahs at the time. I also assume that he received the actual tuners he intended to put on that bass.
Congratulations, I'm sure you will give it (sniff) . . . a fine . . . (sniff) . . . home. My time will come . . . hopefully.
O yes . . . PICTURES please. |

Although the tuners had not come in to Arnold. I asked if he could install bumpers on the side instead. I knew you had your eye on this one as well, but I was fortunate to have sold three electric basses to help fund this. You're welcome, any time you're in the Boston area to come by and give it a whirl. I have to get my wife to help with the camera. |

Click on that then click on 'Resize' and make the photo the size that TalkBass wants. Save the resized pix to a folder and upload when you're ready.

The Kay is the only bass I've owned for the last... well, many years. Then again, there's really no comparison regarding any part of this bass and the Kay. No more feelings of inferiority standing next to a player with an Arvi in orchestra. And no worries about the nice arco passage in a musical. The only thing I think about now is why did I wait so long to get a Nice bass.
I think the bass for Gary was either a carved or hybrid Cleveland. |

Were these a standard upgrade, and if so, what kind are they? |

I don't know what brand the are but I like them just fine. I asked Arnold if protective bumpers would be a good idea for this bass, and we decided that I could keep these tuners and he would install the bumpers. I'm sure those ebony tuners would be nice. These aren't too shabby either. |

You really should show a picture of the back. That bass was mildly flamed. Arnold also had a plainer wood carved body in the white available for the next order. He told me he does about three or four of these carved versions per year.
Thanks for sharing all this information with us. It's good to get a vicarious thrill now and then. |

One thing I'm finding is the slightly shorter scale length is much better for me. Something I didn't really think about when I first played it. Some etudes seem easier and the intonation is right there! Hard to put it down! |
