I'm guessing plywood...

...but I'm sure someone more knowledgable than I will chime in.

I'd say plywood too...

Love that can BTW

It looks like a hybrid. You can see the distinct growth lines of the spruce in the second picture. The sides, though, look to be typical of plywood (you can see distinct layers).

Ply or Carved

I agree with anthem.

Looks like a hybrid to me.

Carved top and ply sides.

I can't figure the back out though.

Nah, I don't think it's a hybrid. If it were a hybrid, you would see the grain clearly in the edge of the top in the first photo. Also, I think the rounding of the table edge would also be more pronounced. The grain is also faint and indistinct when looking at the top. My Chrissy hybrid certainly doesn't look like that. Considering also that the FB is a not-so-great piece of ebony (or is that rosewood), chances are that this is a lam, IMO.

Looks like a "German" ply.

Haven't I seen that pic before with that can?

There's a relief around the edge of the top. There are growth lines, visible from far distances or not. I still think it's a hybrid. The fingerboard does concern me, though.

Oh well, it doesn't matter if it's a hybrid or a laminate. As long as it can pull a good sound, then you're well off.

Looks to me like you can almost make out the plys in the top in the 'from above' picture.

I played a german ply bass exclusively for 12 years. It was a workhorse. I still use it for outdoor gigs.

Just a thought

See if you can get us an angled shot of the f holes you may be able to see if it's laminate from that angle

Appears to be laminated with an ebonized fingerboard?

Look at the edge of the F-holes- if it's plywood, you'll see at least three well-defined layers. If it's solid, you'll see a solid piece of wood with grain running through it, usually front to back.

If the edges are painted, it's probably plywood.

If it's a Hamburg then it's a single layer pressure molded top and back, not sure of the sides. The finger board looks like lesser quality ebony, plays good, just not uniformly black. I had one for a while, the tops and backs are susceptible to cracks but if setup well their not as bad as you would think. To tell the truth it looks a lot like my old bass.

how much do you think is a fair price. for it?

i had it inspected, and they told me it's a solid carved spruce top, and a bookmatched back. with plywood sides and an ebony board. comes with the fishman pickup, gig bag, and quiver. 3/4

nah, ebony usually has lighter grain in it too, like a dark chocolate color running througout...unless it's dyed.
