I played my first DB today!

As some of you may know. I've been looking to start double bass, but it's proved to be quite difficult. I still haven't found a teacher (not for lack of trying), but I have made some developments! I went to visit the local town orchestra earlier to speak with the double bassists. Only two were there tonight, but they were both excellent players. They were both, however, far into retirement and were not up to teaching (their words).

I played on both their basses, both old and beautiful (and huge) instruments. One was a 200yr old Italian bass, and the other was a 150yr old Hungarian bass.

That was my first time ever touching a bass, and it felt incredible. Such power and beauty at the same time. I MUST learn this instrument.

One of the bassists said that she knows a professional player who's principle study was/is double bass and is willing to teach. I just have to wait for him to get back to me now.

Just wanted to let you fine people know, cheers!

Hey Buddy... take your time in finding an Instrument..
Make sure you play on a few different instruments before you buy, if at possible..

I recently got my first Double Bass..
and feel I found a true gem..
Since I started looking I have been cracking out
on my computer, looking and learning about basses and went to many shops..
Be ready for sleepless nights thinking about Basses...
and checking talkbass multiple times daily...
Check out my new Bass..
I have a thread with many pics..
Peace be with You..

I will take my time, and I may rent a bass for a few months after trying a few out just to get a feel for the instrument and make sure that it is for me.

I played French bow by the way.

Cheers Mate- you are on your way-maybe you can sit in on the rehearsals with the two elderly stoolmates. If it's a volunteer orchestra, mostly likely no one will care. Keep in touch and let us know what's going on.
