I survived the two-semitruck sandwich...

...but the bass did not. And this was my soulmate bass!

I was driving to a gig/recording session in NYC. I don't fly with this bass because I don't want it to get damaged by the baggage-handling process. Aren't I clever?

Jeremy,

What happened?! I assume from the title of the thread you got in a car accident? Please let us know more if you are willing to provide us with the information. My condolences. It's these accidents that make me wince.

Let us know what we can do to help...

Kevin

I'm very sorry about your bass, but thank god you're okay, especially considering what you car looked like.

The poor bass...Merz-Huber insures it for $42,500.00 and I'll file a claim as soon as I figure out where to take it. The bag is basically the only thing holding it together at this point! But this bass has been put back together again like Humpty Dumpty at least once in its life (before I owned it), so we'll see if we can do it again.

No kidding. Glad you walked away from that, even if your bass didn't. If you need to borrow a LaScala, you know where to find me. In the meantime, beer is your friend, and go hug that beautiful baby of yours.

That sucks!!!

Is your insurance responsible? Isn't the truck driver/freight company responsible for this??

What's your car look like?

regards

Yes, this is true. But my auto insurance company suggested that it would take forever to get the trucker's insurance to cover the bass damage and that I would be better off getting it taken care of on my own and letting the insurance companies fight about it. This is all terra incognita to me...

I remember when Jason Sypher posted pics of his Prescott after it got destroyed in a flight trunk...now I know how it feels!

Holy ________, Jeremy!! We can appreciate how you loved the bass, but the world is full of basses. You'll find another one. And another one after that, if you've got to... But how many Jeremy Allens do we have?

I'm so glad you walked away from that, man. Maybe 2008 is a lucky year.

Me? I'd be looking for something stronger than beer...

If there is a bright side it is that:

#1, You are OK, if a bit shaken and bruised.
#2, Your bass is insured.

I'm glad to see you posting;- just wish it was a different topic.

I lost my bass in a house fire, so I can relate. But, all my kids got out safely. It's great to be in the land of the living. Sorry for your loss.

You guys are all pals. I'm actually quite surprised at how moderate my bass grief is, but it's as you've all said: when that bit of mortal perspective is given, things get put in their place. Now, if I had dropped the bass down the stairs and opened my bass bag to that sight, I'd be freaking out. As it is...worse things happen at sea (or on icy roads, as the case may be).

Jeremy:

Tough luck on the wreck, but we're all glad that you're not in the same shape as the bass or car.

As for the bass, while it looks pretty rough, there is still hope for it. I've rebuilt one that came to me in so many pieces that it was carried in a hockey dufflebag. A few pounds of hide glue later and it was back out giging.

If the insurance company pays you off, fill me in on the details. I'll put my bid in to buy back the bag of parts and splinters from them.

Glad you're ok.

I've been wondering about insuring a bass: I have always insured mine, but luckily never made a claim /knocks wood/. There's always the chance the bass will not sound the same after a major repair, and the long-term health of the bass may suffer as well (cracks may re-open, no?). So in my mind, the insurance compensation kind of depends on the outcome of the repair, which you don't know beforehand. You can't really be made whole again here. Your bass will always be damaged and repaired. No?

Anyway, just wondering how this works. I would hope the insurance company would pay the total value of the bass. Then you can have the option of finding another bass or/and also repairing the damaged one. Probably have to fight for that one - but I think it's valid.

Sorry about that, man. Tragic.

But I'd be more concerned about you than the bass. haha.
Glad you're okay.

Wow. Thank God that it ended as well as it did. At least you can relate the tale firsthand.
