I think they've figured it out by now, but when I first read UNCLE REMUS' post, I also thought he meant grabbing the tuner on the fly on a half-rest's notice and doing some tweakage. Now I see that this was not what he meant.

I'm on spring break in chicago right now, and The last few nights I had the pleasure of reading my nieces and nephews the stories of Uncle Remus.

3 of us in my bass section just did this very thing when playing Barber's Adagio so most of us could play the Eb's. We did it while the conductress...or whatever you want to call her was talking. Fairly discreet. The next selection before intermission was Hovaness' And God Created Whales, so it was easy to keep it tuned down.
