Info request on Hörst Grüenert bass

Hello, I have seen a beautiful Horts Grunert bass on sale and would like to know if any of you owns one of this instruments and get some review.

Unfortunately the owner doesn't seem to know much about the bass, except the maker and the age (40 years old), and I live 1000Km away from the bass so any info before the long trip will be apreciated.

Here is a picture

Well that looks a beautiful bass.
I visited his workshop in Germany a couple of years ago. He had lots of different models, they all sounded good, but different from each other.
If it's by him it is going to be good, but you need to play it to see if it does the things you want it to. One of them I really liked, great for jazz, but bowed well too. Others were big orchestral beasts, sounded louder at the other end of the room.
Good luck

Most of his flatbacks are excellent instruments for jazz playing. I laid hands to some of them and they were all constructed by plain (unflamed) tonewoods. They all delivered a "killer" sound, lots of volume and strong fundamentals, this much desired unamplified sound all jazz players look for.
I tried only one roundback, strung with Belcantos. Excellent instrument, played by the principal bassist in the Prague State Opera some years ago. I'd like to have such an instrument in my personal collection.
BTW most of them were priced in the $10.000-$15.000 range.
I hope to be of some help.
Mike
