An Interesting Bass on Ebay

I found this on EBay and thought it looked really neat and unique.

It's almost as unique as the last one of those that showed up on e-bay. It might have been 6 months ago. I don't think it's the same one. The last one didn't have the magnetic pickup, but the shape is the same. That's a variation of an old viola da gamba shape usually called a festoon shape. This is more modern looking, but it has the same general appearance ideas as the historic shape:http://www.mdw.ac.at/I105/orpheon/Se...d_pichler1.htm

So did they sell it, take it back, and put it up again or did the bids not make the reserve? Makes you wonder. At least that means it is more unique than I thought. I think it looks pretty cool. The top looks like about 6 pieces and it has those variations in the grain that are probably due to small knots. Does the seller say where it was made? I'd take that tacky pick-up off it.

Hungary. I love the way this bass looks. Mark Rubin told me that these basses are quite common in eastern Europe and cheap as well. I'm still thinking about getting one. Although this guy cant seem to get rid of his.

If it was Transylvanian that would work even better, but for a guy called Count Zacula, you couldn't get a cooler looking DB!!! Go for it!

I guess Australia isn't a huge market and in that sort of price range you'd want to get something that sounds pretty good. I love the look, but I have no idea what it sounds like. If I was in Melbourne I'd go have a play. I'd even make an offer if I didn't already have 2.75 basses ...
