It's the mushrooms

The secret is now out: it's the mushrooms. I should have known. I once accidently spilled some Italian spaghetti with mushrooms grown in the region of Cremona inside my bass and noticed an immediate improvement. At the time I thought is was the sauce, but indeed as it turns out it was the mushrooms.

"Died in Poverty". Last line in the biography of any violin maker.

"Officer, I swear I was going to use these mushrooms to rub on my bass!"

This mushroom lightly "nibbles" away at the wood's surface, thus reducing its density and improving the sound of the violin as a result

Then . . . wouldn't termites work to create "internal sound channels"???

Yeah but then you gotta get spiders to eat the termites, frogs to eat the spiders, snakes to eat the frogs, snake-eating gorillas to eat the snakes, etc. Mushrooms are just easier.

what. a. crock. The surprise for me is that Nagyvary didn't come up with this one. My dad used to grow mushrooms in the flooring of his land boat, a Country Squire station wagon where he accumulated construction debris and tools and leftover dinners, and no small amount of rainwater thanks to leaky door gaskets or just leaving the windows open. I never thought to listen for musical improvements as the mushrooms fruited in autumn. Nice looking mushrooms though. Back to topic... gosh, what will science waste its time upon next? Ooh, I know, how about we find a bit of mummified Antonio S., do a bit of clever gene splicing with a fungi, then come up with a better sounding master luthier!
