Hello, does anyone know if there is a difference in a jazz double bass and a blues double bass in terms of its construction or that can be visibly detected?
Welcome to the forum jplunk. Double basses are not made specifically for one type of music or another. There are different set ups available (string type, bridge height etc.) that facilitate different types of needs. For example a classical player may like a lower action string height with a stiffer string for bowing.
I'll go ahead and say it before anyone else does....please take some time to fill out your profile. The more information you can provide, the better the members of the forum will be able to answer your questions and know where you're coming from. Cheers.
My first teacher (who was a jazz player) said, "you have to accept that this is a classical instrument that we are playing jazz on" and I think he is right. They're all classical basses of some quality standard or another.
