Jupiter Upright Bass by Lemur

I would like for this thread to only contain comments from people with first hand experience with the bass, or serious questions or concerns about the instrument it self. I no long wish to check the other thread in hopes of finding actual information...only to find whatever it is that's going on over there. I'm sorry for having made my posts early on in that thread, and I hope this thread will have a much different vibe.

I copied this from the other Jupiter Thread...of all 12 pages this is the only post I found relevant...JAKBOUND has actually seen the bass in person, and here are his comments.

"I tried the Jupiter!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Last week having just got off a twenty-two hour pair of flights (so the memory is a little hazy). I was in Lemur for the first time looking at some fully carved German basses mostly for arco use, and having heard I was interested in blues music Jerry handed me the Jupiter.
it's a pretty bass to look at with an attractive varnish. It was much lighter than I expected and quite comfortable to play (Spirocre mittals I think). I should point out that I am 6'2" and 280lbs so am probably not the average size, and my previous experience with laminated basses was with the $1.4K tributes to the eastern European poly varnish appliers' art, happily now out of my life.
The neck seemed a little skinny for my taste, but would probably suit most. Good solid Hardware and a great set up.
Provided you could capture the acoustic tone amplified, it would work great on a blues gig, or an old school jazz gig. Think Willie Dixon, or for the Brits online "Coronation St." It was certainy loud enough acoustically.
It had a better response in the thumb position than I expected, but was not up to a fully carved bass. Bear in mnd that what I had been trying out were fully carved basses at $12K up. I have never played either an AmericanStandard, a Cleveland or a LaScala, so have no point of reference there.
I didn't do any sort of inspection the way I would if I was buying the bass. I din't try it out arco, play any bluegrass, or bebop (don't know any bebop). Hopefully someone will go down there and give it a good dose o' lookin'at. Mine was a short detour on afternoon in which I was otherwise engaged.
If I was going out playing blues gigs again, I would give this another look, but would seek out a Cleveland as well, based on the rep.

Maybe BassicJerry will tell us some more about the origins of his brainchild, the Jupiter Bass. I suppose CUP rules might be a problem. It's pretty unlikely that many will have any hands on experience with the instrument in the near future., since it's just been unveiled on the net.

It would be nice to at least know where the bass is being assembled. China? Mexico? Canada? U.S. ? Mexico has a bass building tradition, and isn't to far from Lemur in SoCal.

No doubt the Jupiter will be a big player in new basses the under $3K market, as it looks to be a quality bass in that price range.

Maybe this new thread will set a new standard for civility. Or not.
