Just a Little Help Please?

So every now and then, I'd hear something rattle inside my bass as I put it down or back up. Today I actually lay it down and looked inside; I found what looked like black shavings of plastic or wood. What I'm trying to figure out is how I can get them out of the instrument without damaging it. Please help?

Duct tape a bit of clean garden hose to the end of your vacuum cleaner, put it through your f-holes and vacuum it out.

Why? Do they make noise when you play? Both my basses have little wood shavings in them. They are probably left overs from when they cut the end pin hole or something. They don't make any noise when I'm playing so I just consider them part of my instrument.

I am a luthier and repairman. I have found all kinds (and I do mean ALL) of shavivgs and misc. items inside basses that have come to my shop. they are rarely the cause of unwanted buzzing and rattling. If your problem persists, check your seams, tuners, end pin, strings etc. Anything that might be loose and vibrating. Hopefully it is not the bass bar.

It's not when he plays.
