If you intend to move your bass, check craigslist in your area. Check Ebay completed listings for basses similar to yours. Also, if there are bass shops you can visit in your area, they may be able to give you an idea of what it's worth. They may also be able to sell it for you on consignment.

Kays can vary anywhere from $800, up to mid $3000. All depends on condition, playability, originality, etc. Some people love vintage plywood basses....... and some not so much.

I casually listed mine (1939 M1W original condition) on TB a while back. I think I asked for $2500. It didn't sell. I didn't mind and didn't try too hard. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply and information tom. I live a ways north of BFE so I'm limited on music shops and DB buying public. I did list it once on northern Michigan craigslist, and didn't get one response. I'm kinda in the same boat, not trying very hard, and not really minding. I do hate to have it sit around and not get used though, and I could probably put it's value to better use.

Have you tried TB classifieds? You could list your price and consider offers.

I have considered it for sure, but wanted to get an idea of a reasonable price to start at. Also, delivery will be an issue. The guy that owns the local music store gave me a ride home today, took a look at it and while he had no idea what the bass was worth, he figured that it would be $200 to ship anywhere easy.

I never liked the idea of shipping a DB. Maybe think of a summer road trip, and consign it at a DB shop in..... I dunno..... Detroit? Ann Arbor? What's out there for shops? Toronto?

A few people on TB have mentioned Guarneri House in Grand Rapids. It's a bit of a poke from Petoskey, but not too bad.
