Kay Tailpiece Decal

Hi guys, I'm working on reproducing the early style Kay tailpiece decal and I'm looking for a better photo of a more complete one for my artist to work from.
Does anybody have a nicer decal they can take a giant photo of for us?

Also, is there any interest out there in having a reproduction decal? Probably the more I make the cheaper they'll be per piece.

Please send your 1 megapixel photos to jake at thebassspa.com

Thanks a lot!

Jake:

Did you check in with Roger Stowers over at kaybass.com? I've bought several repro decals from him over the years, always for around $10 a decal. That might save you a LOT of work. He also sells the repro chrome badges. A few scuffs with some steel wool and a hit or two with a hammer or block of wood and you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference from an original. The decals are waterslide, so buy an extra in case you blow it.

If you head over to the Old Woodworking Machines (OWWM.com) website, they've got some great threads on reproducing decals and metal name badges.

Does this help?

If not, I can try something else for you. As I look at then, I realize there may be too much glare. Let me know. BTW, my kay is from 1939.

Tom, that's exactly the one I'm looking for!

Can you take a couple of 1 meg photos from straight on? They would be perfect to work from...

Thanks a lot, Jake

Bob,
If this is for your bass, I am honored. Haven't seen you posting on here for a while. I have to get my wife to help with the camera, being technologically challenged as I am.

I am surprised current bass manufacturers do not put heir logos on tail pieces. It would be good advertising.

I just wonder if a Kay Bass enthusiast out there would not have this exact logo tattooed on their person somewhere?
Tis a nice artistic Logo.

Thanks Gearhead! I've been mulling what to do with this one for a long time. I even put it in the classifieds here awhile back....... glad it didn't sell.

Did you check out bob's Dottie? What a nice lookin' Kay! Never seen a back like that before.

Oog... that's pretty dark Tom.
Can you shoot some outdoors where there might be more light? And closer up - all we need in the frame is the decal. Do you know how to set the cametra to take 1 megaoixel images?

By the way, the 'figure' on Bob's 1940 Kay came from an airbrush! That's plain plywood under the paint. It is a nice bass nonetheless and I'm looking forward to hearing it in a little while...

Don't even think about it!
It would look good on a shoulder though, if you're into that sort of thing...

I was wondering if that "flame" on the back of the O-1 model was "faux" or not.

They used real flamed veneer on alot of basses, wonder why they did it that way on the O-1s?

OK, I think we have rain for the next few days. Hope I'm not holding you up. That will give me time to figure out the camera. I will do it ASAP as long as it's not pouring.

I can be patient Tom - thanks for helping.

I always used to get my kids to help me with computer/digital stuff but since they've both moved out I've had to figure it out alone. At least they left me with a good grounding!
