Hey Martin.

Thanks for your straightforward advise.
The fact that you've seen a lot of Suzuki instruments helps. I've never seen one, and this one was a bit of a drive away. But for the price I was willing if it was a decent instrument.

I think I'm going to save some gas (and time), and use the firewood I have stacked on my porch instead.

Thanks!

It is just a trick of the eye, or is that endpin off-kilter? Looks a little askew in the first pic.

Good eye! Seems it's tipped forward in pic. 5 as well. Hmm.

This particular bass isn't a model I've seen before... but Martin's rather sweeping criticism of Suzuki instruments is a bit much. I helped a client sell a 5/8ths Suzuki in about 1999, and it had a very decent sound when played arco. The new owner was thrilled to find an appropriately small instrument with such nice construction and not a bad appearance either. Didn't look anything like this bass under discussion, not at all. More uniform colour. It was really easy on the ears. So while a lot of Suzuki instruments have certainly been classifiable as best suited for kindling, like I said initially, there's a broad range of work happened under that label.
