Hi, I'm a bass student looking to buy an upright bass and I have come across the term 'laminated bass' a lot. I have no idea what this means and was hoping that someone could help me out and tell me. thanks.

Laminated

for laminated read plywood construction,as opposed to carved or solid construction.
laminated basses tend to be at the cheaper end of the market, although not neccesarily inferior lots of people start with a ply bass then move on as they progress/get richer? carved basses are more expensive due to the tons of extra work involved in the manufacturing process.
then again lots stay with a laminated bass because they are usually more durable and climate resistant than a carved bass.
there are also hybrid basses that combine ply and solid wood in their construction.
don`t worry it gets even more confusing once you`ve actually bought it !
