laminated basses tend to be at the cheaper end of the market,although not neccesarily inferior lots of people start with a ply bass then move on as they progress/get richer? carved basses are more expensive due to the tons of extra work involved in the manufacturing process.
then again lots stay with a laminated bass because they are usually more durable and climate resistant than a carved bass.
there are also hybrid basses that combine ply and solid wood in their construction.
