Laminated Cleveland.......Extended

Yes, my friends, everything you've heard is true.

I picked up my Cleveland serial # 220 early today from the Old Dominion trucking company in Rivera Beach Florida. I played it right out of the shipping case on the loading dock just to make sure it was not damaged and while doing that got some applause from the workers. Hurried Home (only ran one stop sign) and I haven't stopped playing except to let the good people at New Standard know it arrived in great shape. I can put this thing down, so far I've missed lunch and dinner.

Special thanks to:
macmrkt for letting me check out his Gut Strung Cleveland and his beautiful Schnitzer and DeSola 7/8. And planting the seed to order the bass.

Ken Smith for his various posts on C extensions and one particular post directed to me encouraging me to go ahead order the bass with the extension installed.

And thanks to the TBers here that have posted their experiences with New Standard instruments

And of course a big thank you to Wil and Arnold for doing it right!

OK back to playing the bass

Picture

Here is a quick picture of my Cleveland with the fingered C extension. I find that I am setting the end pin lower to reach D and Eb (I was always riding pretty high) but it is comfortable. Tonight will be my first gig with it, and I can't wait. Beside sounding so good the set up is impeccable. Arnold and Wil were so easy to work with and talk to, I can't imagine a better purchase experience.

Congrats man. I'm loving my Cleveland more and more....it's like the more i progress as a player-the bass responds unveling better and better tone. I don't see me buying another bass for awhile and even then-i got a feeling it's going to be another New Standard [fully carved cleveland].

take it easy and congrats.

Univac Jr,

Congratulations on your new bass! I like the color: regal looking. Did you choose a custom hue?

Thanks Dave;
I did ask for 'Dark Reddish Brown' which is not particularly specific. When it had been varnished Wil called me and talked to me about the color he used and said he hoped I liked it. I was expecting to look almost like the one the web site but I am more than happy with the way it turned out. I've enclosed a picture of the extension Arnold made, which is a work of art. The flash here washed it out a little but you can see the complexity of the color on the scroll.

BTW I notice in your profile that a Cleveland is on your g.a.s. list. I say go for it. I did it by putting down a fairly small amount to 'hold' a bass (ask Arnold and Wil about specifics) and then setting aside some money each week toward the bass. Also I sold some gear along the way.
It actually helps with the 'painful' wait this way because you are always doing something toward the bass. And it is not a big financial hit.
