There are almost a dozen Florida luthiers listed in Bob Gollihur's Luthier Project page. One of them is in Tampa. If you don't hear any personal recommendations, try there.

there are no good luthiers in tampa

I live in Tampa also, from experience, there are no qualified BASS luthiers, yes, there are violin luthiers, but you want a bass luthier.
The closest luthier I can recommend is ron annis, hes in sarasota county(about 2 hours away), his number is also on bob's luthier list, if you want any other information, pm me.

tampa luthier

Thanks for the info on Ron Annis. Have you had any dealings with Darkwood Bass in Punta Gorda?

Nope, but most bass players in tampa get their bass set up in tampa i.e. members of the florida orchestra-like my teacher lloyd goldstein who was in the florida orchestra for a long time but left-, if not somewhere out of state, no problem man for the advice. Remeber, go with a bass luthier, not a violin luthier.

Tampa, eh...Look up John Importuno...a very good friend of mine and while not a double bass luthier, he is a bassist and a VERY good violinmaker.

Two Hours? I live in Lakeland and it only takes me two hours to get to Ron's.
