On the market

Hello guys, I'm on the market for an upright bass.
My budget is $3,750 and it can be new or used. The
bass has to get me into and through college, so I
would like it to be as nice as possible. Could anyone
help me along with making this decision. I play
mainly jazz but I also need it to have a good orchestral
sound too. So please help me out
Thanks
-Kyle

That's definitely enough of a budget.

Play basses, lots of basses. Someone can tell you where to look in LA.

You also need to decide if you have a good enough bow, and if that budget is just for the bass or needs to include a bow. A good orchestral sound requires a decent bow, after all. One of the better carbon fiber bows would do you well there; they're good value.

World of strings is the main one around here, but it

A 2 hour drive is not far at all, to search for a bass to get you through college.

Check the TB classifieds, as there seem to be several basses currently for sale privately in southern California.

Check out Lemur, Lisa Gass, Stein on Vine...

Also, Glen Fong has a Wan Bernadel FS in the classifieds. They are very nice basses and his is close to your price range.
Check that one out!
