ah no, the double does not sound electric, I was just seeing how much I could piss off people. I see it didnt work that well. No, I dont think that the DB sounds anything like the electric which is why I love playing the upright. And the reason I was lugging it around was also because I was playing it seriously too (I had already jammed earlier that day), I just wanted to see how terrible it sounded if you played with a bow through a distortion/whammy pedal.

Well I think the point is if you only want a "terrible" sound, then you might as well stick to a cheap BG and cheap pedals, as they do this very well!!

I dont ONLY want a terrible sound; I only play this grindcore businness about 1 hour a week while I play jazz influenced funk/rock jams (both on DB and BG) about 7 or 8 hours a week. I am in fact somewhat of a tone fanatic, is just that I am a ferm believer in not taking oneself seriously and playing music that is just fun, not good, sometimes (then try and make good music 90% of the time).

Check out some of Les Claypool's solo albums if you really want the answer to this question.

Ha - once again Ed cuts to the chase and says what we were all thinking!!

It seems not everybody who plays "an STANDUP, or the big electric bass thats not electric" is as musical as we thought....

Check out a trio called E.S.T. the bass player uses some interesting effects as well as the piano player, in the context of the music it sounds very nice, it all make sense.

I am curious how did you guys get to be so cool? Well, let me see if I play a "double bass" through a distorion once means I cannot be "as musical as we thought", they cannot possibly have any other musical interests either. Where is your sense of humor? I dont know about you but I play bass because its fun. I also like the talking about me in the third person; not even online were you able to talk straight to me. Im sorry to write this angry post but I would like it you guys will stop being so high and mighty; you guys are not any more special than anyone else. Finally, try and read my posts before you pass judgment the whole "a STANDUP, or the big electric bass thats not electric" was a joke.
