Maybe it's just me but...

I'd happily see the coming of a new sub-forum titled "buying a bass".

Surely have I used (with joy) this "Basses" forum for that very purpose, but hey, is it not drawing any talk "on the instrument" towards its value?

Anyone here with similar thoughts?

My modest 2 cents.

not always a first bass as is in my case, but a sub-forum named buying a bass, would be great. Many questions from many players would indeed end up there.

That sticky gives a link to a How to buy a DB thread that's open to discussion.

Well

Do you guys feel the sticky is effective?
It seems that more than half of the new posts are shopping-related.

And it makes sense. Buying a (1st) bass ain't the easiest of choices. So newcomers will have in mind such a question as : "what bass should I buy".

Another way to deal with this would be to have multiple bass/dealer stickies, as there is in the strings subforum.

It may be less elegant, but if more and more poeple come here and post, as lots of newcomers do (such as I did when wandering about buying my Eberle), about "what's the best deal under 2k" / "are china basses worth it" / "what about upton" / "ever heard of Strunal" - it may be of good practice to have such typical topics as opened megathreads.

Again, just my humble word.

Let me be the first devil's advocate: What's in it for me?

Before you answer that, read between the lines.
