Isn't this a plywood bass? Also, the fingerboard is damn shiny, so it might not be ebony, it might be painted hardwood, or?
Anyway, Christian makes it sound great!

It doesn't appear to be his. It looks like his are old and carved.
But honestly, there's nothing wrong with plywood. I've known great players that had a ply bass to tour with a carved bass for in town. I've heard great players take a student bass and coax sounds out of it that I could only dream of on the finest of instruments.
The first time I saw Christian play, I walked out after the show and said "I'll never misuse the term virtuoso again." He could clearly play whatever he could think with ease and joy. And he could think some pretty hip things!

From that camera angle, you can see his string height which is always something I wonder about regarding big name professionals. Sounds great! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGFJi...eature=related
(As if you didn't already know from his records) McBride's been transcribing some Mingus.

Like all Jazz bassists, Christian gets what he wants lickitty-split....beautiful women throw themselves at his feet upon his arrival at the airport. (some of them nekkid) The venue Gophers fight over who gets to handle his $1,000,000.00 Gasparo DaSalo bass that has traveled comfortably in it's first class seat. Cuban cigars are offered by the 100's and his wine is tasted before he drinks to a toast offered to him by the Mayor.

I can't wait tell my wife, she is going to be very excited about the "career" I've chosen. Except the hot/nekkid women part. I'm gonna leave that out.
