MollyKay and Bassmonkey know what's up!

Well,
I just got back from a little road trip up to Pennsylvania to visit MollyKay and Bassmonkey's place, and I gotta say they have such a lovely collection of vintage American basses, and all have such great setups going on.

I'm pretty sure the basses I played were all Plywood Kays or Kings dating back to the 30s and 40s, and they all played like "BUTTA!"
Each one had it's own voice and they all spoke so clearly and strong. Even with my poor technique, it was so easy to pull a great sound out of their basses.

I never understood why people played Kays, since every one I've ever encountered played like crap, but now I see just how nice a plywood bass can be. Molly, your collection is enviable...as is your husband's facial hair.

Thanks for the tour of his evil laboratory! Your basses practically play themselves, as all great basses should.

Matt

My Bass Monkey and his evil laboratory…TOO funny (facial hair…that is a Grand Pa Jones mustache)! I’m glad you enjoyed a trip to our small and humble shop.

You had your hands on a 1937 Kay M-4 set up with Thomastik weich’s, a 1934 King set up with Dominant solo’s, a 1940’s Epiphone set up with Labella guts and a 1937 American Standard set up with Gamut guts. You made them all sound GOOD, especially the King Bass…some hot jazz licks (you are too modest)! We are glad to help bring your Christopher bass back to top playing form.

Also…we never spoke a word…but thanks for serving in the Army and serving our country. We appreciate all that you do to bringing music to the troops!
