Mooradian vs. Bobelock?

I did a search and have read about a few different brands of bags. I have narrowed it down to either a Mooradian Deluxe, Standard or a Bobelock.

The Deluxe is AUD$560, Standard $439, or the Bobelock is $455.

Are any of these water proof? I don't mean to hold it under water, but there is a high chance I could walk to Uni in the morning Sun and then have it rain on the way home....

Which would you choose and why??

Thanks

I'm real happy with my Mooradian Standard. I've had it about 15 years now. Though it does get damp when rained on, the water stays on the outside, and the bass has never gotten wet. I don't know the Bobelock. Do they have Kace bags in AU? I have some now and find them very well designed, fairly good with water resistance, and likely much cheaper than the others (I don't actually know what they cost. They came with some student basses I bought). If water is a big issue, you might try treating the bag with Scotchguard or something like that.

The Bobelock side handles are way too low. It's weird. I swear by Mooradian 100%.

I would have said the opposite of Wilbyman. Bobelock has more well placed handles but Mooradian seems a bit more durable.

I had a bobelock for 15 years, it was great, I got a new protec case that is very well padded and very waterproof but I still miss the easy handling of the bobelock and the ease of getting the bass in and out of the case. I think I may get another bobelock.

I wonder how much proper handle and strap ring placement is affected by the size and geometry of your body and maybe also the bass (or perhaps many bags are simply designed by idiots). I find the Mooradian decent, but not ideal. I had a case for awhile which seemed to have been designed by a very sadistic chiropracter. I had to add several handles and change where the strap attached before I could use it effectively. The next time I go shopping for a case I'm going to be way more focused on carrying comfort and ease of handling than on quality of materials and construction!

My bobelock bag is more padded and has more handle options than any mooradian bag I've seen.

I have seen the mooradian and although i find them extremely light, they are also prone to tears much sooner than the bag i'm using now.

It's a messina cover bag and it's really made to last a lifetime. I got it 2nd hand from TB and i haven't had any seams open in the past 3 years i have it.

Been very happy w/ my Mooradian Deluxe (which I waterproofed just to be safe).

I recently got a new deluxe mooradian to replace an older deluxe one that I had for a while. My old one hadn't worn out, but didn't fit as well with the extension I had added and the stitches were getting pulled. I had 10 years of good use out of the old one and a student is using it now. They have definitely "new-and-improved" their deluxe bags since- the handles, padding and pockets are all way better than my previous model.

I have another bass with a regular mooradian bag on it, and although it is fine the deluxe bag is more than worth the extra money for the extra padding, extra handles and better fit. It is pretty wet where I live and I never worry about the case leaking.

I don't know the Bobelock at all, but I have used quite a few other types of soft case, and imo the mooradian is the best of the lot.

one more vote for Mooradian. Great company and great product. I've had my standard for over 16 years.

+1 on Messina. He quilts the padding down so that it keeps its shape better than any other case. No more bass rolling over when you put it down on its side.

I was just wondering why nobody was mentioning Messina!

Have a Bobelock on the Kolstein now. I like the handles very much, stout and well placed. I wish the padding and outer material was more like the Mooradian though. It wants to roll when sitting on it's side, the padding being more puffy. Hard to get used to the opposite side opening for clothing the bass, but the handles make it easy for picking up and loading. Got a Messina on the Standard, fits well and very tough, but doesn't fold as well while on the gig. Seems like there are trade offs on each type, but I still consider Mooradian the standard.

my .02,

Ike

I agree with wilbyman-the Bobelock is a very high quality case, but the handle on the E string side is too low (about 4" for me) for the all-important carrying-up-stairs move.
