Red face The most beautiful instrument in the world!

In my local community college I have free access to a double bass and I have three teachers that are willing to help me (for free!).

I've been taking a piano class to read notes more efficiently, and hopefully help my future bass playing!

I purchased a book entitled:

"All for Strings, Comprehensive String Method Book 1 (BASS)"

I will start this thursday and I can't wait!

As a beginner, what should I be prepared for and what should I study first?

What are some should and shouldn't dos?

<- I feel like this emoticon I'm so excited!

Wow! You are fortunate. If the teachers are DB players, then my advice is to ask them your questions first. You've posed some quite broad, open-ended queries. Many of the previous threads here will address them. Just do a few searches and park yourself at the monitor for a good while. As far as what you should be prepared for... well... be prepared to fall in love! Welcome to the fun!!!

Regardless, DB is the most beautiful instrument in the world so its fitting.
Ha that was so cheese!

Anyways OP, I agree with Drurb. It's best to talk to your teachers first.

Two of them are orchestra teachers and the other is a guitar teacher, that plays the bass guitar.

Oh, what's a "slab"?

Congrats! Set up lessons with one of the orchestra teachers, they are the ones who can teach you the instrument. Once you have some chops under your belt, you can get the guitarist to show you around the world of jazz.

Welcome to the dark side! Good luck!

If I remember right, the bumbers are split tires, and the tailpiece was made in limited quantities for Norton Customs. This bass is belongs to "Strangy" from the Klingonz.
