Move to the basement?

I have had my Upton Hybrid for about four and half months, and I have been trying very hard to keep it humidified during this very dry Utah winter. I have an evaporative humidifier that I have to fill up every night that keeps the house between 35% and 45% relative humidity. I don't know if this is ideal, but it is the best I can do.

I have been finishing my basement over the last year, and it is almost done. Early next week, carpet is going in, which makes most of the new rooms ready for use. I am wondering if moving my bass to the basement might provide a more stable environment. Right now, my bass is in the front room, so it is very near the front door. I worry every time I have to open the door that the cold air or drop in humidity is going to cause some damage.

I expect that I could keep the humidity a little more consistent down there, since it is a smaller area, but the temperature is a bit lower all the time. Any advice?

35-45% should be fine. My house has gotten as low as 30% this winter even with the humidifiers running. It's all good.

I lived in a multi-level townhouse where my choice was to leave my bass 6 feet from the front door or drag it up 15 stairs to the next level every time I got back from a gig. I left it by the door the 2 winters I lived there and had no trouble.

You're good. I think we really worry to much about this stuff. The having near a door is not nearly as harmful as taking it in and out of the house to gigs. Plus if something happens the bass doc can stick it back together. Be smart. Humidify. But don't obsess.
