My first foray into DB world...

Happened today:

I stopped by "Wilson fine violins" (Michigan) to check and see what the fuss about DB is. Coming from an electric bass, picking an upright up was odd, as was bowing it (I liked german, vs. the french bows)

I'm in Love. I'm renting one (I forget the make) next paycheck, and getting lesson locally.

Major props to the kind people at Wilson, I felt kinda odd going in just to play a bass (and not buy anything) I was shown 4 or five basses before I walked out, even their own custom EUB (which was fantastic to play)

Congrats on catching the DB bug. I remember the first time I held a double bass. I didn't know what I was doing and I stood behind it like you might see a character do in a cartoon or something. The strings looked so huge! I didn't know how to control the beast.

I stuck with it and it was my major instrument in college. Since college I have fallen in love with electric bass, but I would never give up my DB, never.

Best of luck with your lessons. Don't forget to share you progress with us.

I played a couple of 5-stringers they had there. the low B was the thickest thing I've ever seen, I couldnt even begin to work with it.

I'm currently looking into a music college, but I really just dont know where to start.

I'll be sure to keep everyone update with all the blister horror stories...
