My first 'real' bass!

Hi everyone, finally got my first acoustic bass today, I've been playing a EUB for the last few years but I figured it was about time I took the plunge into the acoustic world and I'm glad I did!

It's only a student type German laminate thing from the late 70's but it will do the job untill money flow's freely. Just ordered a set of strings and a trip to the luthier is on the way...

anyone know anything more about it? the previous owner (who'd owned since new and not played it for the last 20 years) couldn't remeber much

Well nice bass. Good luck on your DB career.

You can't expect anyone to have a clue about that particular bass with just a picture and a description of "German laminate thing from the 70's". You'd need specific details like were you got if from and who sold it to you. And then we wouldn't have a clue.

Good luck though

Congragts on your new baby.

Look around the inside for a label. It may have even come unglued and fallen to the bottom of the bass. It looks similar to my East German bass that is from a similar time period and that I suspect came from the Musima factory. Your pictures don't show much detail, like closeups of the neck joint - is it dovetail, hidden or exposed etc. also the tuners, scroll, neck etc.

Truthfully, it is hard to ID most of these sort of basses for sure. I still don't know for sure about mine except for the country of origin labels inside which say "Made in Germany USSR Occupied".

Best of Luck,
S

hehe, yeah I was very vague looking back, to be honest I'm pretty sure whatever I find out will be unsurprising given the level of the bass, but detective work is always fun Thanks for you're reply's anyway, heres a couple more pics

hehe, I know, I can't remeber the last time money has flowed freely and I cant see a time when it shall..

perhaps I should rephrase it as 'when I am next prepared to eat just pasta for a long time'

thanks for all you're replies, as for the tone, it's quite deep and fairly loud too. The strings on it are OLD and coming apart a bit on the A and the E, so they've lost a bit of definition. But a new set is winging its way to me as we speak, and theres a good luthier around my parts which I will take it too as soon as I can find his number! those guys are so elusive!

a new darling for charling... that may be sigworthy...
