My German Blonde

Can anyone out there shed some light on my bass? It's blond, laminated and I'm told it's German circa 1960. It has no label but the givaway is the neck which is very thin and triangular in section. I use it for outdoors and riverboat gigs; it has quite a nice sound.

Any further info would be very much appreciated.

Ah, Benny. I knew someone would ask for pics. Trouble is I still haven't mastered the art of reducing my pics to the size acceptable for Talkbass. I had hoped that the neck description might nail it.

Well what you can do in most any photo viewing program is scale down the size, you can take 10 meg pics and scale them down to 600x800 resolution.

Or like Jake mentioned you can just e-mail one of us and we'll gladly scale down and post them.

Also, if you have a myspace account, if you upload them there, they automatically get scaled down.. then just right click, copy the destination url and past it into the image code here.

Sounds more like a Kay than anything German.

I've no clue, I never had a clue, but I'm glad that I got to see. I love DB's and have been wanting one for quite awhile. I played one for a bit in highschool and have always wanted to persue it further.

It's pretty

That looks like a nice student grade bass Roger. She's in great shape for her age too!

Thanks Jake for handling the pics. I presume that it's your Witch Doctor appelation that enables you to do that. I was very interested in your PM comments that tuning the after length to two octaves and a fourth would improve the sound. You also make that comment on your website I see. Is this generally known to luthiers?

Good to have friends in Talkbass.

It kind of looks like an old German ply my teacher was selling a few years back. His had no name/brand attached at all, but it was a pretty sturdy and nice sounding instrument. Back in the 90s he got I think $1600 for it.
