Dude, are you out to get me or something? Just displaying my power on the first day which is about 20% play 10% show off and 70% of conductors leaving to talk to parents and so forth. It's fun.

I'm not out to get you. I just brought up a common rule of section playing: blending. It may be "fun", but it isn't appropriate during a rehearsal.

By the way, my previous comment wasn't an attack. It was sarcasm.

Depends on what the section sounds like...

Mcnaire,

You have to use your power for good and not evil. The only time it will be appropriate to "bury" the section is if there is a low C or D and you are the only one in the section with an extension. You may then lay waste to any other instrument in your general vacinity. (provided it is not pp)

BTW, I wasn't telling you to go buy a string. Just giving you a little piece of friendly advice that you can store in that head of yours and use at a later time. For example, when you decide that string is dead and want to change it.

IME- playing with 3 solo strings and one tuned to orch. will not sound right on the bass. Just take it for what it is worth. Trust me- we have all been or will continue to be poor musicians. Don't ask the questions if you don't want answers/advice.

Thanks it's cool.

Your right it doesn't sound quite right having a fith between the E&B. But, I it works for now. Mainly because Bottesini never goes that low. I will buy a solo string when I get the money. But for the next couple of months I'll just roll with a AEBE(C). Thanks though.

Actually Edgar Meyer's regular tuning is AEBE with 3 solo tuned strings on the top and one orchestra tuned string on the bottom. When I use solo tuning, I use this tuning as long as there isn't a whole bunch of stuff of the E which there usually is not in the bass repetoire. I find it sets up a really nice resonance with the 1-5-1 in the bottom 3 strings. It makes the bass a little louder and better sounding.
