My new bass is settling in...

I've played double bass for about a year. I learnt to play on the bass that my school has which is an extremely unattractive, bright orange thing . It has a very high action which isn't great for me as I play jazz.

So, a few months back I decided I was going to look for a bass that I could buy for myself and call my own. I spent a long time looking around at new and used basses and found a great looking bass at a really good price. On Saturday I went to try the bass and take her home .

The guy I bought it from (jassibi) bought it from a collector who guessed that it was about 30 years old and German made. There aren't any markings on the inside so anybody's guess is reasonable .

Anyway, the bass is set up perfectly and she plays great. The action is just right and the sound is great across the whole fingerboard. She's strung up with Spirocores at the moment. The tone is really resonant across all the strings and it's a really strong, well rounded sound. It was definitely worth the 6 hour drive to collect the bass.

Anyway, I'm guessing you'd like to see some pictures.

The secret's out...she's a 5 string! Sorry if the pictures are too big, I'm sure you don't mind really .

Anyway, I'm one happy fella at the moment. This is gona keep me happy for a few years yet .

Huh, neato. Don't see many fivers. I've been strictly electric for awhile, but you are giving me DB G.A.S.
Congratulations, and enjoy.

Not for me, that low B is great. It's alot more resonant than I thought it would be. I love the low B. I don't think I'll even try the high C option to be honest.

Youll wake up with a horses head in your bed for that

But seriously, you should try fanning the pegbox with that many strings now, may change the tone of the lowest strings.
