The maker at this point is unknown since the tag isn't inside. There have been some accidents previously to me purchasing it, but the repairs we done well. However if the value on it increases I might take in it to have it all looked at again, as the major repairs were done awile ago.
These arn't great angles but I'll post more later!

I've only seen a couple of basses that old or older in person, mostly just photos. i'm surprised more folks aren't checking it out. I love the shape of the older gamba basses. Really tight grain on the top and a good flame on the back too. Just curious, how long is the string from nut to bridge?

My suspicions are confirmed. Don't let anyone, no matter their credentials, talk you into shortening the string length. The older basses were built that way, but most have been butchered;- I mean reduced, which really isn't a euphemism if you look up the word. And it is one of the things that contributes to a smaller bass having a bigger sound. If you've got the hands for that length, keep it that way. Sweet instrument there, even with no label, which on that one would plausibly just be a shop in Mittenwald, Markneukirchen or Schoenbach.
What kind of strings do you have on there? And what's up with those tuners? Do those look original to the bass? They are unusual.

In one photo that shows the back of the FB, is that a dowel to reinforce an extension or is the FB all one piece? I was thinking from the front photos it is all one piece. I really like the way that was done in any case. That nice diagonal angle makes the bass look really sharp to my eye. Given the age and the features, that is definitely a bass to treasure.
So one more question: The pickup is two transducers under both bridge feet? What kind is that and how do you like it B4B?

When they were repairing it, the owner of the shop decidced to carve the pegs from ebony. His reasoning was that his italian bass had something like that, and he liked it so he added them...even though it's a german bass. The strings are Obligatos, and Helicores, however I'd like to try a gut G and maybe D. As far as the fingerboard goes that was just the angle in which the pic was shot, there is no extra dowel. Yeah the pickup is two transducers under both feet. It's a shadow 965, I love it to death. It has a wonderful warm tone to it, but it might get boomy on a larger bass. But other than that I think it's worth a shot, and the guys at shadow are really cool and quick to respond to any question.
Toman:She all fits, but I'm gona get a mooridian case soon, so hopfully that work.
