My Pop's Last Bass

When I was a kid, my Pop had a Prescott, sold to a player in the Dallas Symphony for mortgage payments. This was his bass of later years. I had it repaired at Stein on Vine in LA, had a Realist p/u installed. Gary said it was maybe Czech or French, late 19th or early 20th century. Its kind of beat, but man it sounds good! Keeps me connected to my Pop.

That's great, nice to keep connected to Dad. That bass looks fine to me.

Love the dogs too.

Interesting f-holes, very large and quite vertical.

I'm quite sure it's a Czech, as I have a bass just like it, with the same f-hole positioning and dimensions and a more "vertical" shape. It even has the same finish. The kicker is that most of the chips and cracks appear to be in the same place.

First post, by the way.

He got it from a family of musicians from Poland. How curious the path of this bass...!

What a cool thread!

I just posted in the "Show Your Basses" Thread about your pugs.

That's just fantastic, man. I've got a few things that belonged to my dad and I understand when you say that it keeps you feeling connected. Enjoy that bass and your memories and legacy.

The 1st military photo, by the way, is inverted, unless your pop liked to play left handed now and again. []

Thank you so much for sharing those images of your Pop and all the musical ensembles he participated in. I was truly touched by these.

The personal post like this to the forum is what really spins my beanie.

Yeah, you Dad imho was the real deal. I would love to have met him!

Again Thanks a heap!

That picture isn't inverted, read the words and look at the jackets. I guess he's a bit ambidextrous.

Forgot to mention that I inherited mine from my father as well. THAT is a coincidence.

I think Pop just went lefty for that shot. He didn't want the missing scroll volutes on that old Kay to show up in another shot.
