The Upton Bass Hybrid bass; be it the UB Hybrid (dark brown varnish) or the SuperSwing Hybrid, the UB Hybrid has a solid carved spruce top with solid maple ribs and a laminated back giving you the best of both worlds: a carved basses sound and feel, blended with the economical use of laminated/ply wood backs.
And:
Approximate Body Dimensions:
Upper Bout - 20 1/2 inches
C Bout - 15 3/4 inches
Lower Bout - 27 inches
Rib - 7 inches at neck set to 8 1/4 inches at endpin
Body Length - 45 1/4 inches
String Length - 42 inches
I really went for the idea of them putting it all together for me and with the color and finish I wanted. They also do the complete setup. Carved a nice bridge for it and set it up for use as mostly jazz pizz playing. I like the sound of Ray Browns bass and Gary at Upton, said no problem. Got Spirocore Mediums that he said was Ray Brown all day long. Set the action and it's all ready to play. |

Could i get a darker varnish than yours? (which is absolutely gorgeous by the way)

The balance is not due until the bass is shippable. So...if your reason for waiting to June is finances or other factors...manage our wait time to your schedule.
We do all the varnish and setup work ourselves...and with the amount of orders already placed...8 to 10 weeks is accurate. I wish we could get them out as soon as they were ordered...but right now we cannot make that happen without cutting corners. |

The book has you work with just the open strings. Even so those 1/16th notes gave me a workout on the E string. Thanks to Eric for the great finish. I suppose he could go darker on it. Not much though without it being a paint job. How about bringing it to a car paint shop?? Maybe metallic? http://www.talkbass.com/forum/images/smilies/no.gif
Thanks all. It really is a beauty. |

You shouldn't let a thread sell you on a bass. Especially one where the guy who sells them is taking an active role. You should take your time and find a bass that you like, upton or otherwise. I did the same thing when I bought my first bass, got the upton laminate , and while it was fine, it really wasn't what I was after.
You've got five grand, bro, go out and see for yourself what it will buy. There are shen willows, wan bernadels, calin walturs, used stuff, be patient.

I had already put several months into the research into it. But with my resourses (financial) I thought that Upton did well by me. I kept upping my range, but finally had to limit it. If you have 5K well, there is a big world out there.
Haven't tried it Arco yet, don't have a bow yet. That' another world. We'll see what teacher has to say. |
