Mystery Woods on Kay bass fingerboards

I had to replace the original fingerboard on a 1953 Kay with an ebony board. There was so much black crud on the original slab cut board that my initial assumption of Brazilian Rosewood or some other South American Rosewood was easy to make. It wasn't until I started to cut it up to make other things out of it that I realized that it was walnut! The Kay website makes no mention of this. Any Kay experts out there who can list other woods that fingerbaords were made from?

I've only seen Brazilian, ebony and walnut Kay fingerboards, though I've seen maple and cherry boards on other student level basses.
