Nahrmann Bass in Northeast

If you are looking for a double bass in the Northeast, don't
miss Nahrmann Bass in Billerica. He has approx 100
upright basses in stock and is a renowned Luthier. I did
many searches and finally ran into him indirectly. I just
bought a very nice carved top bass from him for a very
reasonable price. He has a great shop and is very friendly.
The setup on my bass is superb!!

His website is worth seeing. http://www.nahrmannbass.com/ I wound up with a Craigslist special, but was hoping to get up to his shop. Interesting how he prices things as a range-- $2000-$3000, $3k-5k etc.

Nice guy. Lovely shop. Great inventory. Not my particular cuppa, but many, many satisfied customers.

While we're speaking well of Massachusetts bass-wranglers, don't forget Rutman's in Boston and Mark Carlsen in Tewksbury.

Rutmans has a nice inventory. They're gracious people and their basses play well.

Mark Carlsen is a really good player and good company too. Every fingerboard he's planed that I've played was first-rate, including the one I paid him to do. He posts here sometimes too.

Man, I wish there was somebody in Maine that was as good as the guys in Southern New England but there just ain't. Fortunately, the work is worth the drive.

And don't forget Arnold Schnitzer's former assistant, Zachary Martin, in Providence.

He caters to many of the arco crowd professionals: www.zacharysmartin.com/

Bob Gollihur's site has all this too:

Nahrmann's inventory depth

From afar I've been admiring the depth of Nahrmann's website inventory for years now. He seems to always have more really nice 5/8 size basses than anyone that I can think of. You folks in the northeast really are spoiled rotten with a lot a great bass shops within an easy day's drive. The one shop out here on the wrong coast that I can think of that approaches this number of stringed hippos in one place is World of Strings in Long Beach, and about half of those are repairs.

Some day before I get to old, I 'd like to get out there for 10-14 days of fall colors and bass shop tours. Nahrmann's is near the top of the list for me.

I bought my de Anda bass from Volker - not quite 5/8 but a small 3/4. He's very good and a gentleman to deal with.
