NAMM Show attendees or exhibitors?

Anyone on the doublebass forum going to Winter NAMM in Anaheim, CA this coming week? I'll be in the halls on Wednesday and Thursday and then again on Sunday. There may some evening events that I'll attend as well. Any tips on great players that will be demonstrating in booths or concertizing in the evenings?

Smile NAMM

hey guys!

i have been there for the last couple of days, i had to leave early. i am at booth 3576 (i think) for sunlite instruments backing up del casher. ( www.delcasher.com ) i will be there all day saturday generally doing shows on the hour for about 20 mins or so. you know the routine. stop by and say hi ! i will be the guy in the flannel playing a sadowsky. dels music lends itself better to slab.

who did i see? matt garrison, michael manring, tony, uncle will is there tomorrow, herbie , i finally got to meet kyle eastwood!!!!! so many names so many bassists, so many great musicians and industry people. i am in a hurry to get out the door (gig on the malibu pier!) or i would yammer on.

its brutal though. honestly, i feel as though i have a mini-hernia and i have lived on snickers and kashi bars for the last couple of days. its way too f***ing hot.

anyways,

pain and suffering are manditory, misery is optional.

deeply,

simon

For whatever it's worth. Shen basses has a new model....the SB-190. I tried it, played it, loved it, BOUGHT IT!
Same size body as the larger violin-cornered basses. BIG shoulders, flatback hybrid, LOUD, and sounds very much like a fully carved bass. I own the SB-200 willow, and I am BLOWN AWAY by this new bass. Look forward to getting it as soon as it's set up.
Thanks, Steve!!!

You mean the Rogeri models? Is the SB-200 Willow smaller in size?
I always wonder how the willow wood compares to the maple and have seen most players chose the willow over maple.
Jacochops, can you share your experiences?

Well, IME, the willow sounds darker, even when new. The new 190 bass is Rogieri in size (BIG table), and has the larger shoulders, and is louder acoustically than the willow. Same string length, but the willow has a smaller box, by a long shot.
I'm just hoping this hybrid will open up as quickly as the willow bass has! Just 2 weeks until it arrives! It'll be stung with mittels, and have a very flat camber to the board...growly!
