Need Advice

:::::::::::GOT THE BASS:::::::::

there is a bass for sale about 1.5 hrs from where i live and I seek to tap into the vast talkbass knowledge to determine weather or not i should get it.

first some background info:
i'm 19, a sophmore engineering student at the University at Buffalo with not too much money. I've been playing EBG for about 5 years and have some viola experience but i've never played an upright bass.

ok so here is the ad:

Upright bass for sale. Made in the Chzech Republic, 7 years old, great condition. Adjustable bridge, german style bow, with rosewood finger board. Gigbag has 1" padding, colored blue and also in superb condition.

i e-mailed the guy with the following questions

hi there, i saw the listing of the bass, and I've just got a few questions if you don't mind. Who makes the bass? is it laminated or carved? (assuming its laminated) do you have more pictures?, and does it have any damage/repairs i should know about?
Thank you for your time, i'm looking forward to hearing back from you.
-Alex

and he replied

I honestly can't remember who made the bass. All I know that I can remember is that I purchased it 8 years ago through "the woodwind and the brasswind". It is a laminated bass, and those are the only pictures I have. There has not been any damage to it and the only adjustments made was an adjustable bridge and a replacement of the nut.

It seems like an ok price to me, but what do you all think?
I'm hoping to check it out in person in the next couple days

What is the asking price? Can you post pics? What are your plans for learning to play DB?

the asking price is $700

pics here http://rochester.craigslist.org/msg/245568580.html

and as for learning, i plan on noodling on it over winter break (1 month) then not having it for spring semester (EBG is a better size for a dorm room) and then finding a teacher come summertime

Got it today!!!!!! took up most of my ford focus hatchback on the way home, but now i'm a little more used to the size and my EBG looks wimpy in comparison.

anyway the guy bought it a few years ago, but sort of gave up on bass, and just wanted to free up some space.
No idea on who made it, says "made in czech republic" on the inside though.
Its amazing, and i can't wait till i don't suck
