Need Help Finding A Bass

Hi. I'm a trombone player who also plays quite a bit of bass. I haven't played upright in a few years but want to start playing again. I'm having trouble finding the right one. I need a very sturdy bass. I'll be playing rock on it and will be playing quite a bit of buddy holly music so I'll be standing on the bass, sitting on it, you name it. I want something that has a beautiful warm tone and something that's easy to play on. Also, like I said, it needs to be able to handle all the crazy stuff. I weigh 165lbs if that helps. Please avoid leaving silly comments, I know standing on a bass isn't a good idea but I'm doing it haha. Thank you very much for any advice

Where are you located?

You might want to check into rockabillybass.com, if you haven't done so already... those guys know a lot about what you need to do to a bass to make it stand up to the abuse of the genre.

However, you may find that the structural modifications and the "beautiful warm tone" might be at odds with one another. Most modern rockabilly players are pretty heavily amplified, and acoustic tone is often secondary to beefy construction. Hopefully, some guys with experience in the 'billy world will chime in. BTW... there's also a 'billy section in these forums.

Best of luck to you... if I tried that stuff at my age, I'd be in the emergency room.
