Anway. About a week ago, I took a trip down to Upton Bass in Mystic CT to finally buy an upright bass, after playing a rental for 6 years. First of all, I have to highly reccomend this place, though I'm sure many of you have been there, and obviously heard about them, as I can see they advertise on this forum. The guys were great, I talked for about 2 hours about the bass with this one guy.
Anyway, The one bass that really stuck out to me was they Hawkes Hybrid bass. The tone was killer, and I just so happen to think it's beautiful. For 2,600, I had to order one. Tell me what you guys think. Personally, I can't wait. http://uptonbass.com/catalog/product...ba5a0bd82225d3
I look forward to getting to know you all better, once again, the forum is killer.

You say you're a highly experienced EB player...& you're only 16 yrs old!! Sheesh, when I was 16, I wasn't experienced at anything (well, at least not anything I'd mention here )
So, wunderkindt, make sure you keep us old fogies informed when your bass arrives.
all the best & welcome to the show,
gomez

Those basses have a very good reputation here at TB and Gary and Jack are true masters fo their trade that provide the best customer service around. Congratulations!

That's a fine bass! You will not be disappointed. You should spend some time reading these threads. There has been much written here about Upton and many other fine shops.
Let's see, you've been playing a rental for six years. So, you started when you were 10. That's great. I started when I was about 12. Uh-- that was 3+ decades ago. I wonder if that makes me a "highly experienced" double-bass player. |
