New Bass! Shen 7/8 Willow Flatback c.2002!

So...I finally got a new bass! After several months of searching, I finally got it from The Loft Violin Shop in Columbus, OH.

It has an extremely even tone across the entire instrument, and has awesome sound production! It is strung with a set of Belcantos and has ebony adjusters. I plan to have a C extension installed later this year.

The Loft was very accommodating and helpful. I recommend them to anyone!

Congrats! Looks like a nice upgrade from the Eastman.

Can I ask what kind of stool you are using?

Congratulations! Those are wonderful instruments.

I thought about that model myself, for a long time. Nice mix of many good things.

I bet the Belcantos work well on that bass, too.

Great choice! Best of wishes; play it long, well, and joyfully.

Thanks guys!

@crowsmengegus: I don't know what the brand of stool is. I bought it off eBay a while ago. It's collapsible and very sturdy--I've actually run over it with my car before. I am looking to upgrade that, as well.

Mike Shank, a luthier I live close to, here in Central PA, has a similar bass in stock, although I think the back and sides might be Maple, instead of Willow.

But, it is still a Shen 7/8 Gamba Flat-Back ("Germunder" I guess is the model name).

I was wondering what the neck is like? I show a marked preference for more substantial (even "meaty") necks. Is it a D neck? Or an Eb?

The neck is fairly thick, but not too thick. I think you would like it very much.

It is definitely a D neck. There's no question it's a D neck. Very easy to find.

I'm still loving this bass. My first experience on this bass was a big band rehearsal. The bass has great jazz chops. It has a depth to the sound--like a great recording of Ray Brown.
