New Christopher DB 204

Hi

Got a P.M the other day asking for a review of my new Ply Chrissy, bussetto shape.
Well, it arrived today from Lando Music, and it was a thrill to unpack. Jonas Lohse did a great job of setting it up, the fingerboard is smooth and the action can be raised or lowered to both extremes.
Right away, it displayed a pretty good sound, if rather raw (naturally). I wasn't so pleased with the zinginess of the new weichs, so I replaced the D&G with a couple of Animas, which helped a lot.
The finish is easy on the eyes, not as bright and shiny as I had feared, but quite appealing, actually.
In the whole a fair deal (1320€ +shipping) for a useful instrument.
Compared to my 7/8 Lang is of course unfair. That bass is just in another league, and will continue to be 1st call.
But as a travel bass, and one for the rough places, I think it will do fine, and the tone will hopefully mature.
I assume even chinese plywoods can have soul

Anyway, here's a little soundclip of the bass, with goofs and all, so you can listen to what I was talking about.

Update.
Took the bass to a jam session today, and was positively surprised. The tone has kicked in, and while still raw, it has a nice oompf with the animas D&G/weichs E&A at a medium-high
string height. It was a fun change playing this bass. Compared to my Lang, who sports a weich/oliv combination, it sounded more old-school and has made me think about string height in general. I've been playing witha medium-low action for a while, and now realize my sound has been lacking punch and depth.
So I must make the trade-off and sacrifice a bit of agility to improve my tone. Cuz tone's king, right?
All in all a nice by-product from getting a second bass

Kaspar: Congratulations on the new bass. If you had not mentioned that it was a ply I would have assumed it was a carved bass.
I use the same Spiro Weich/Anima combination on my Eberle.

As a fan of Bussetto basses I'd love to see a pic.
