Question New to DB. Eastman?

I have access to Eastman basses for good prices. I REALLY want to get into DB and I know that if I get one i'll stick with it. Here's my question:

Seeing that their different models (Impressario, Andreas, etc.) Is it worth it for the huge price jump between the different models? Aside from that, how do Eastman basses stand up to other competing companies? I know of almost no other brands beside King & Engelhardt.*sp

go here...and go play every one you can. There are plenty o' places in your general area so there's no excuse for not going out and putting one in your hands to see what your preferences are. Don't let price be your only guide (within reason....if it's less than 1k be wary). If you have a friend that's a player, take him/her with, but ultimately it's what YOU feel comfortable with.

Oh yeah....most important...GET A TEACHER and pick their brain alot.

I had a Eastman VB305 with violin corners for a while, and I wish I still had it. This particular bass was great.

I've found eastman stuff to be good entry level db's. Go for a carved one.

I had a 125 Hybrid Busetto for a while that was pretty decent sounding and fairly indestructible.

Hey Louis! In my weaker moments I contemplate that snakewood German bow you got going for sale...

I have an Andreas Eastman 305 carved bass, and I absolutely love it. It sounds and plays great. I've gotten plenty of complements on the sound and playability of it, and I don't forsee needing a new bass anytime soon.

I'm with Matt. I have a 95 series hybrid with the antique finish and is is just starting to open up. Beautiful, great instrument that won't break the bank.

I still want a Shen 7/8 Willow or Panormo though.

I recently aquired an Eastman 85 wanting to experiment with a shorter string length. Great bass for the money. Really nice build quality, and the sound for a laminate is quite good. With a good setup, they are very good instruments for a student, semi-professional, etc.

My main bass is an eastman with hillbilly superslapers on it. I have been extremely satisfied for over a year. However some bonehead who didn't even say anything broke the headstock off of it at a show. So once again I have a "frankenbass"! It is well worth the time and effort to repair it though. It's the best sounding bass I've heard in it's price range.

OP, inside joke.

Seriously, go play a bunch of basses and buy the one you like. Don't get hung up on the label inside your bass.

Very true, but FWIW I think the OP is on the right track by considering an Eastman over a CCB or something as is usually the case with people new to DB.

Yeah. I spoke with my instructor and although he has no experience with Eastman, we looked at the specs and he was very impressed that a "beginner" model bass comes stock with Ebony fingerboard and adjustable tuners. I'm definately going for the carved-top, and the 95 with antique finish looks beautiful. Thanks for all the advice fellas. Now I just have to wait for money to rain from the skies and into my Christmas stocking :P MuHAhaha.. I can manage to get a new one for around $2,000. I can't wait
