Seeing that their different models (Impressario, Andreas, etc.) Is it worth it for the huge price jump between the different models? Aside from that, how do Eastman basses stand up to other competing companies? I know of almost no other brands beside King & Engelhardt.*sp

There are plenty o' places in your general area so there's no excuse for not going out and putting one in your hands to see what your preferences are. Don't let price be your only guide (within reason....if it's less than 1k be wary). If you have a friend that's a player, take him/her with, but ultimately it's what YOU feel comfortable with.
Oh yeah....most important...GET A TEACHER and pick their brain alot.

I still want a Shen 7/8 Willow or Panormo though.

Really nice build quality, and the sound for a laminate is quite good. With a good setup, they are very good instruments for a student, semi-professional, etc. |

However some bonehead who didn't even say anything broke the headstock off of it at a show. So once again I have a "frankenbass"! It is well worth the time and effort to repair it though. It's the best sounding bass I've heard in it's price range. |

OP, inside joke.
Seriously, go play a bunch of basses and buy the one you like. Don't get hung up on the label inside your bass. |

I spoke with my instructor and although he has no experience with Eastman, we looked at the specs and he was very impressed that a "beginner" model bass comes stock with Ebony fingerboard and adjustable tuners. I'm definately going for the carved-top, and the 95 with antique finish looks beautiful. Thanks for all the advice fellas. Now I just have to wait for money to rain from the skies and into my Christmas stocking :P MuHAhaha.. I can manage to get a new one for around $2,000. I can't wait
