New to DB: What brand basses should I look into

I have been playing electric bass for about 16 years and want to start exploring the Double bass. I was hoping to find something decent for around $1,500 Is that possible? If so which brands should I look into? I'm ok with having to save a little more if it makes more sense... I am usually under the philosophy of buying a nice instrument to begin with so I don't have to upgrade frequently. What are your thoughts
Thanks in advance for taking the time to help me out.

Depending on where you're located, there may be an excellent bass or string shop near you, and they would be of great help in finding a good fit. If you could let us know or complete your profile, we might be able to direct you a little more accurately!

There are a few shops that do very good production basses for around $1500. Look at Shen, Lemur, & Upton for example. I know there are other reputable makers too, those are just a couple examples off the top of my head that I know offer good basses in your price range. Best of luck!

Please review the links at the top of this forum. There's quite a bit of information there.

Thanks for the information. I just found out I'm about 20 minutes away from Lemur music so I'm going to run down there in the next couple of days to check them out. Thanks again everyone!
