New Guy- Need Help

Hey guys,

I have played bass for about 8 years now, upright that is, and I have recently purchased a newer bass to go along with the more advanced playing I will be doing as I enter college. I am looking to sell my old bass to garner some money for tuition etc. however I am having difficulty getting in contact with the man I purchased the bass from. I purchased the bass in 2005 from "Bob's House of Basses" not sure if any of you have heard of it just for records sake. I have e-mailed him twice as well as a phone call- all to no avail. I have the receipt from the purchase and all the information I have is the word GAMBA. I am not sure how to determing what kind of bass, what its value is worth, or what information I can obtain from it in order to post it on E-Bay, pawn shop etc. I payed 3,000 for the bass, a case, a bow, and a wheel (man I love the wheel ) Anyways I was wondering if any of you could help me with how I can obtain information without speaking to the person who sold it to me. I am looking to sell the bass, bow, and case as a set. Thank You in advance. I am not trying to post this bass for sale on here (unless anyone is interested ) I am simply trying to figure out how to obtain a value or information with which I can give to a potential buyer. Again Thank You in advance.

Bryce

If you went ahead and filled out your profile at least we'd know on which continent "Bob's house of Basses" might be located.

...just in case your info is out of date or something. But looking at that site, and seeing as they recommend Internet Explorer 3.0, I'd say there's a good chance he's gone under, or else the site hasn't been updated in 10 years. I have not dealt with them before so I cannot help any further there. But, you can always take the instrument to any reputable luthier/dealer in your area and they should be able to give you a rough appraisal, and maybe even make a reasonable offer for purchase. You might start your search at Bob Golihur's Directory:

Whatever you do, DO NOT go to a pawn shop. You will get hosed for sure. When you have ascertained the value, stick with local listings (craigslist.org or your local paper) or, if you're willing to ship, by all means put it up for sale on the FS board here, or eBay. Make sure to take lots of pictures, in good light (outdoors is easiest). Make recordings of you playing it if at all possible.

I assume you have looked though the ff holes into the interior of the bass for a label?

I know a fellow that bought a Christopher laminate from that Bob. I got my bass from a Bob also, but it wasn't the same Bob. The fair asking price of your bass doesn't have a lot to do with Bob unless you are selling it to him or through him. Show us the bass and tell us what you know and it'll be pretty easy to tell you about what it is worth.
